THROW THE BOOK AT 'EM !!

I saw on the news last night that a group of "unruly teens" caused a bus accident when one of them punched the driver in the face...while he was driving!!

Seems the driver had asked the kids to settle down or he'd have to call the police. They didn't calm down. As he was on the phone calling for the police to take the little jerks off the bus, one of the little punks punched the driver in the face. The driver lost control of the bus and smashed into a traffic signal post. The news showed the entire front of the bus was bowed outward with both front windshields totally smashed out. The front door was broken, half of it actually broken OFF. The future convicts (no doubt) jumped out windows to escape. The cops caught a couple of them. I'm sure they'll happily snitch out their friends...especially tell on the one that actually hit the driver...to save themselves. Even if they don't it's all on tape.

This needs to stop. There could have been babies or toddlers on that bus. ANYONE could have been seriously injured. Pedestrians, other drivers...anyone. I hope they punish these kids to the fullest extent of the law. They should be charged not just with the assault, but also for interfering with public transportation. If punching the driver doesn't qualify for that charge, what does?? Both are felony charges. They should also be required to pay every dime that this stupid act caused to be spent. The repairs to the bus and the traffic signal. The wages of the driver who was hurt, the medical expenses, the wages of the driver who had to take his place. The wages of the police, supervisor, tow truck driver and every other dime that will be spent in court over this. Then they should lock them up for a good long time and let them think about it. When they come out, they should be required to speak to other kids about how stupid it is to do such things. How one dumb act like this, for NO GOOD REASON, could easily have killed someone. Where would they be then? A little anger management counseling wouldn't be a bad idea. Neither would a public apology. I also hope they plaster these kids pictures all over the garages so they aren't allowed on another bus.

If you want to act like an ass and risk other peoples lives, you can walk.

If this is who I think it is...isn't that the hijacking guy? I heard he was let out of jail and left town. I also heard that they screwed something up in court that forced them to release him. If this is the case that involves you, what IS going on with it?

I hope you have gotten some counseling and are feeling more at ease driving the bus. You handled it exceptionally well at the time it happened. I hope you are taking care of yourself, too.

and if this IS that person (same track as Jeanne), it was good to see you when two of us had to move equipment to EM and came up from South a couple weeks ago. You looked good. Been a few years since 5th St Garage in the mornings. Kind of shy in bringing up THAT incident as I didn't want to embarrass, but I was extremely proud of how you handled it at the time and since.

My guess on the prosecution this time, Jeanne? Sad to say, but I think THIS time we'll see action. The other incident was worse no question.....but THIS time there was something management will notice. One of their pieces of EQUIPMENT was destroyed. A driver getting beat up isn't that big a deal, but a bus getting heavily damaged will require retaliation on their part. Just being realistic, not sarcastic. Ralph

Oh boy!, I saw on the news. I was so p*ssed off at the teens, it's totally dumb teens, I bet the transit police would take the teens into the youth prison (Lino Lake Prison) for assualts and vehicle property (which is the vehicle price $350K).

I am appalled to hear about yet another bus incident involving violence. Is there a standard procedure for the driver to follow when dealing with miscreants? I'm with you Jeanne on getting as much monetary damages from these kids as possible. Send them to the workhouse so they can work off what they've destroyed. I can't believe that someone would assault a driver like that.

To quote Mr. MacAfee: "What's got into these kids today?"

I did see something on the front page of the Minnesota Daily a few days back about the 2. I thought the article was inappropriate myself, and I hope no one here was involved...

GEEZ! Thanks for all your comments! Good to know that you can entertain yourselves while I'm neglecting you!

NicOp - Great to see you here!! When are you coming back? I hear you want the Roadeo Princesses to bring you by a bottle of Jack or something. Hmmmm...

TJ - Good to see you're still around. I'm looking forward to learning a couple new recipes in Albert Lea. ;)

Diane - I'm very happy to see you are doing well. The worst thing that could happen would have been to let that guy win and you quit your job because of him. Glad you hung in there. I'm also glad you got the support of the other drivers...we are like a family. It's a good feeling.

Kyle - Unfortunately, the stories that make the news are only a VERY small percentage of the actual assaults on bus drivers...or other crimes that actually happen on the bus. Luckily, they caught these little losers and I'm sure they will be prosecuted. Hard to fight it when it's caught on tape!!

Red - I never tell people who to vote for. I feel that is a personal choice and I don't have the right to tell people who they should align with. It all depends on who you are and who the candidate is and which candidate aligns with your position on issues the best. Thanks for your comment, though.

Dale - Sorry to have abandoned you all again! I was on vacation for about a week and a half and when I get busy with my home improvements I slack on everything else. I did get my painting done though and, like the horror movie says...I'm baaaaaaack!

Martini - Maybe it's the booze, not the computer!! Hey, I'm just going by your name! Maybe TJ can make you a virgin martini...hehehehe I doubt it!

Thanks again for all that commented. Glad to see you enjoy my blogs....THANKS!

Anon - None that I know of. But there was a pic up at the garage of another loser that they caught who assaulted a bus driver. Hope they bury him under the jail. I'd love to be the prosecutor on that one!!
